How to Deal With Job Rejection: 6 Simple Ways to Bounce Back

Getting a rejection after a job interview can be tough. It’s normal to feel disappointed, but it’s not the end of the road. In fact, it can be a useful step in helping you get the right job.

Here are 6 simple ways to turn job rejection into something positive:

1. Ask for Feedback

It’s okay to reach out and ask the employer or interviewer for feedback. Even a few honest pointers can help you improve for the next time, whether that’s how you answered questions or how your CV came across.

2. Think About What Went Well (and What Didn’t)

After the interview, take a bit of time to think things through. What did you do well? Were there any questions that caught you out? This will help you feel more prepared and confident next time.

3. Stay Positive

Rejection doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. It just means this job wasn’t the right one. Remind yourself of your skills, achievements and how far you’ve come. Keep your head up. Your next opportunity might be just around the corner.

4. Keep in Touch with People You Meet

If you got on well with the interviewer or recruiter, connect with them on LinkedIn or send a quick follow-up message. You never know—they might think of you for future roles.

5. Learn Something New

If you’ve got some time between interviews, use it to build your skills. Maybe take an online course, get a new qualification or brush up on your CV.

6. Keep Going – You’ve Got This

Everyone gets rejected sometimes. It’s part of the job hunt. Don’t let it knock you off course. Stay focused on your goals and keep applying. The right job is out there for you. You just haven’t found it yet.
